Privacy Policy for Palaver
Effective Date: May 19, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Palaver (“we”, “us”, “the app”) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using Palaver, you agree to the practices described below.
What we collect
Sign in with Apple
When you sign in to Palaver, we use Sign in with Apple. Apple sends us an identity token, a signed credential that proves you are a valid Apple user. From that token we read the sub claim — a stable, anonymized identifier Apple generates for you that is unique to Palaver. We use this identifier to recognize your account and enforce the usage limits described below.
We do not request, collect, or store your real name, your Apple ID email, or your Apple-relay email address.
Conversations
Your conversations with Palaver are stored locally on your device. They are not synced to our servers and we do not keep copies of your chat history.
When you send a message, it is transmitted to our chat backend — a Cloudflare Worker we operate — which forwards your message to a language model provider, returns the response to your device, and does not retain the message contents after the request completes. Messages pass through the backend transiently in order to deliver a reply; they are not logged or persisted.
Usage counter
Palaver enforces a per-user usage cap of approximately 50¢ per day (measured in language model costs). To do this, our backend keeps a small running tally of usage keyed to your Apple sub claim. This counter resets daily and contains no message content — only an aggregate cost figure tied to your anonymous identifier. It is the only persistent server-side record associated with your account.
Subscriptions and payments
Subscription purchases for Palaver are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not see, collect, or store your payment method, billing address, or transaction details. Apple provides us with a receipt we use to verify whether your subscription is active. To review or cancel a subscription, use the Subscriptions section of your Apple ID settings.
Third-party tracking and analytics
Palaver does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or tracking SDKs. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers. The only external services involved in normal use of the app are Apple (for sign-in and subscriptions) and the language model provider our backend forwards messages to in order to generate responses.
Data retention
- Conversations: retained on your device for as long as you choose to keep them. Deleting them in the app removes them. Uninstalling the app removes them.
- Usage counter: reset daily; not retained beyond what is needed to enforce the cap.
- Apple identifier (
sub): retained while your account is active so we can recognize you across sessions.
Your choices
- You can delete conversations from within the app at any time.
- You can revoke Palaver’s access to Sign in with Apple at any time in your Apple ID settings under “Sign in with Apple.”
- You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
